In Response To: Sony CDP-CX240 - Speed? (Korey Sherwin)

I have a CDP-CX240.

Here are some of the features:

o PC keyboard input, I haven't used it. I got a slink-e instead.

o Advanced MegaStorage Control for a second CD Changer, played with

it but now I use slink-e/CDJ

o Second CD input, handy for daisy chaining my other CD player.

o Custom File Group File organizes your CDs into eight groups, not

verstatile enough so we got slink-e/CDJ

o Optical digital output, I have nothing to hook it up too.

o CD Text automatic display of disc and track names with compatible CDs,

yeah right, how many CDs have these? CDJ/slink-e with CDDB is much better.

I got the 240 on hope that it would be sufficient for our needs. I was dissapointed with its library management. I got slink-e/CDJ to remedy that
short coming.

The CD load times are not blazing but they seem comparable and maybe better
than that of my 5 CD changer (CD-CE515). I don't remember a spec
being in the manual (besides I can't find my manual right now). I don't
find the load speed a problem. I have it playing right now and I just
hand timed a change at around 12 seconds. That's for a CD that was
about 8 slots away.

I've ordered a CDP-CX220 to complement our CX240 (we discovered that with
CDJ/slink-e it was worthwhile to load all of our CDs into a player)
so the load speed should matter even less since CDJ can be told to
alternate between two or more players. If you plan to buy CDJ
then you should consider the lower end Sonys like the 220 and maybe
even the 210. I am buying the 220 because we want the option to
occasionally run it without CDJ/slink-e and the 220 is better for
that over the 210. It also has memo display which the 210 doesn't have.

I've only read about the Kenwood. Yes, they do make a dual zone with
dual transports. I wish Sony made one of those, also because I want
to control it with slink-e.
