In Response To: 200 disc player life span (Richard Malcolm-Smith)

I leave mine on about 18 hours a day minimum and each player is playing or has something queued about 12 hours a day. I've had them running this way for about 6 months and haven't had any problems. I must say that the Sony CD transport is relatively poor on at least one of the CX200's that I opened up. Often it appears to clamp discs off-center, causing them to wobble horribly. To compensate they use a very fast, wide range focusing servo to keep the laser focused on the disc. I'm amazed it works at all. Sometimes I find the whine of the focusing servo on a wobbly disc to be annoying.
