It sounds like these problems involve the unsucessful registration of the SlinkX components by the install program. Now that I think about it, it may be necessary to run the install program twice in some cases because files like mfc42.dll may need to be updated upon reboot and the install program attempts to register the components before the reboot happens. SlinkX consists of 3 components:

slinkx.ocx - the ActiveX control
slinkeprx.dll - a proxy dll used to go between the ActiveX control and the server
slinkeserv.exe - the COM server

All of these components must be properly registered for things to work. If you'd like to manaully register these items, execute the following commands in the SlinkX directory:

regsvr32 slinkx.ocx
regsvr32 slinkeprx.dll
slinkeserv /r
