Can't Talk to Slink-e

I have a new Slink-e that I am unable to communicate with.

I've tried connecting with the supplied cable on two different Win98 machines, connected to a serial port (COM1) that the Windows device manager shows as working without conflicts. In each case, I've verified that the serial port is working by connecting a cell phone data cable to the port and getting it to work. I'm using the latest release of CDJ, and I've tried using Slink-serv without success. I've buzzed out the cable and it looks OK.

At this point, I'm thinking I have a bad Slink-e.

Any ideas?
