I think from reading Ted's post that it could be Sony have enhanced the set disc memo command, I would guess that this means:

old way to set a title, send the slink data: 0x80 [disc] [13 bytes ascii]

new way to set a title, send the slink data: 0x80 [disc] [20 bytes ascii]

Where any unrequired letters are null padded. I will check this tonight on my CDP-CX450 and post on www.undeadscientist.com if i'm right. It seems from Ted's post that sending 17 letters fails. Ted - Would you try sending "Salamander Pie012xxx" where the xxx is null null null? i.e.

"cdsls033:set_memo_text[0253616C616D616E64657220506945303132000000]"

---- Ted Said: FWIW:

On my 400 if I send "cdsls033:set_memo_text[0253616C616D616E64657220506945303132]" (Which should change disk 2's memo entry to " Salamander Pie012" and is 17 chars if I counted right) I don't get any acknowledgement from the player. If I send "cdsls033:set_memo_text[0253616C616D616E646572205069453031]" I get "cdslr033:memo_written". Then when I look at the player indeed the title has changed to "Salamander Pi" which is all that fits on the display. When I then press play and then stop it scrolls, but only "Salamander Pi" shows up...

Conversely when I hand enter "Salamander Pie012345" (which is the most that the player accepts) the player scrolls everything. Now if I "cdsls033:query_memo_text[02]" I get "cdslr033:memo_text[0253616C616D616E646572205069]" ("Salamander Pi")

(I'd be happy to run any other experiments you'ld like Colby.)
