In Response To: Re: CDJ not recognizing moved discs... (Arnold de Leon)

I just got to experience this when I added a CX220 to my CX240.

I moved a bunch of CDs down to the new player. I figured that

this would be no problem since CDJ knew those slots were empty.

I also "shifted" a bunch of CDs within the existing player.

When moving CD's from one "occupied" spot to another, you need to tell CDJ to look in those slots explicitly.

It was a really weird experience. CDJ would appear to

"look" in the appropriate spots but I got inconsistent results.

There were cases where it would "find" one CD but not another

one in a spot next to it (in the new player).

This could be a timing related problem with the new CX220 player. It may not be responding as fast as CDJ wants it to. I try to run a fine line so that the search happens as quickly as possible. If it doesn't get a response for a particular request, it keeps on going and deals with it in another pass. As with any other player-related problem like this, it would be very useful if you could send me a log file of you search attempt. For this I can tell exactly what is going wrong and fix it.

I kept repeating the searches. Sometimes it would get stuck in

loop (over a hundred passes before I gave up) where the players

weren't moving but CDJ kept claiming it was doing passes.

log file = problem fixed :)

One of the weird cases where I was down to one CD that it would not

find. I tried telling explictly to search the slot. I tried a different

slot. I think I finally got it to work by exiting CDJ and having it

search the slots that it thought where empty. It took several passes

but it eventually located it.

log file = problem fixed :)

It would seem to me that CDJ doesn't bother rechecking the IDs if it

thinks a slot has a CD and the player reports there is a CD in the

same slot.

Yes. This is how it works UNLESS you specifically tell it to check that slot or you try to play that disc (at which point CDJ will realize that it's not the disc it thought it was and will look it up).

This makes some sense, keeps things moving quickly.

On the other hand it would be nice if I told CDJ to look in a slot

then it should verify the CD.

It should do that.

I am also guessing that if CDJ sees a CD "move" (a known CD appears in

another slot/player) it declares the old slot "empty" except I suspect

the update doesn't always propagate correctly, that's why starting

CDJ from start appears to help things.

yes it should be doing this and more.

BTW Colby I experienced the slink-e not responding a lot. Is the

upgrade available yet?

I haven't burned the extra chips yet, not many people have responded (which is good in the sense that not many people may have the problem). I'll probably wait another week and then start sending them out. I don't want to be sending them out one at a time....
