In Response To: Adding CX270 support to CDJ (Colby Boles)

Your assessment is correct; On pp.23-24 of the manual, all references to storing title, artist & track/memo data are based on the currently selected disc. If the front door is open, 'current selection' refers to the slot at the center loading position; With the door closed, it refers to the slot at the play position. Either way, the same slot number is referenced.

The point here is that the disc does not need to be actually loaded in the player mechanism, but simply be the one 'currently selected'. This DOES indicate that the carrousel must physically rotate to the slot in question before labelling can begin. The software designers obviously never envisioned a mass load scenario.

As far as speed is concerned, why not label the disc immediately after scanning it for its CDDB lookup profile? I for one am willing to download the whole CDDB catalog as a pre-requisite step, if need be. Alternately, you could scan the disc, look it up, then label it. I know that means lots of individual CDDB lookups, but we ARE talking work-around here.

Do I infer from your comments that you cannot yet load even disc artist & title info to the 270? And is the 270 the only model which stores track info?

Thanks for the attention; I've just placed my SLink-e order!

PS: Could you elaborate on the concerns regarding audio output quality on the CDP-CX2x0 models? (The purchase of a second 200-disc unit is imminent, and it will be mosty full soon after its arrival). I don't think my aging ears can really discern the nuances which one might be able to detect out of a high-end D/A converter, but then I've never heard a side-by-side comparison. Your views?
