Additional uses for the Control-S port

As you know, the Control-S port on the SLink-e (v2.0) is just IR port 7. If you load a device file which sets the carrier frequency to 0 (i.e. no carrier), you can use this port to control Sony equipment which has a Control-S jack. It turns out that there are a couple of other manufacturers who also use this "Control-S" protocol (i.e. their regular IR codes but with no modulation). After a bunch of research, I finally figured out that the "multi-room" port on the Marantz SR-880 AV Receiver accepts unmodulated IR commands and I am now able to fully control the receiver's multi-room features using the Slink-e (something that is impossible using regular modulated IR commands).

Based on some information from the Xantech web site, it seems that the following equipment will work with unmodulated IR codes as well:

Carver HR895, CT24, CT29 REMOTE IN Jack only
Marantz (Green Multi-room jack, Orange remote-in jacks, & RC5)
Philips FR60 (RC5)

Please note that I have not tried all of this equipment so I cannot guarantee the effects of trying this. I've only tried the SR-880.
