Sony has removed the SLink from its new A4 satellite receiver (no i-Link either). What does exist is a 9 pin socket for low speed data exchange (they reference it as for future add-ons). Any ideas on how to connect into this port with SLinke. I could then use CDJ to see if the SLink logic is still inside.

First, find ground on the socket and verify that none of the pins is outside of the 0-5V range. Then I would connect what I thought was and output from the A4 to an IR input of the Slink-e and view it using E-Z Learn. If the output you are connecting to is active high, you will need to reverse the input polarity on that input using SlinkeServ. One you can see the waveforms, then you proceed with figuring out the protocol.

It would be helpful to order the factory service manual for the A4, as this would allow you to see what the purpose and wiring of the connector is. This cost about $15 each. You can order them from Sony at (800) 488-7669
