finding the carrier freq of a remote

Ive just got a philips TV - I cant even get my slinke to act as an IR distribution unit. Anyone have any ideas on figuring out the carrier frequancy of the remote?
The weird thing is _ALL_ my universal remotes will control the tv, even tho the resulting wave in ez learn look totally different. Im sure it has to be a carrier issue, but I dont like the idea of trying every single value between 20000 and 50000 :(
