Microsoft has just updated their COM website and added
DCOM for W98 v1.3:

While this makes it easier to get, I'm still unable to figure out
how to make it work. I looked for FAQs/cookbooks to configure it,
but peer-to-peer W98 still eludes me. dcomcnfg still asks for
user-level security and I have no interest in setting up a domain
server.
My kingdom for "setenv DISPLAY foo:0". I know, I know... not quite
the same thing, but jeez... that was easy.
