OK. I'm clearer on what you want now. The CDJID is still the way to go, I think. This value never changes and always represents the physical disk you want. It is independent of location in the player, what player it's in, even media type as you start seeing MiniDisc and auto-ripped MP3 albums in CDJ.

I also see why you might want the numbers you enter to be small since you'll be keying them in by hand. How will the users be able to see the CDJ UI in different locations in the house to know the numbers to select? If you wanted, you could create your own numbering system in CDJ which would be stored in the keyword field. When the user hits a number, you could then do a search (which is very fast) and add the resulting item to the playlist. Or of course, you could do the search directly from the database. This way you could keep the numbers small, but it would take some management to keep them compact and unique.
