In Response To: Re: No more CDJ crashes, but no more X-10 (Colby Boles)

I may have spoken too soon on the no CDJ crashes post: since running CDJ for over a week on the new machine, I did finally experience an abort in MFC42.DLL similar to the ones I used to experience fairly regularly on the older slower machine. I strongly suspect in this case it was due to me holding down either the receiver volume change button or the VCR FF/REW button (my VCR does not have locking FF/REW modes) for a long time (for non-CDJ reasons), because I happened to check CDJ immediately after that and that's when I saw the crash.

It seems like a flood of data is causing this problem (I have my IR receiver set to 100ms sampling). Holding down the IR source for a long period of time probably causes some sort of buffer overflow. This would explain the intermittent nature, the increased occurance on a slower machine, and the fact that some people don't get the problem (probably don't have their IR receiver turned on, or don't use IR around the Slink-e much, or don't have prolonged periods of IR due to holding down a button).

Don't know if this helps at all, but you might try experimenting with prolonged IR. I just now experimented with holding down the FF button for my VCR (a Sony M20HF) for one minute. After I released the button, CDJ was frozen and not even responding to clicks on menus. I got a "Server busy" message, and a bunch of SendEx error 5's appeared in the Slink-e data window. After clicking on the "Server busy" message I got this failure:

CDJ caused an invalid page fault in
module MFC42.DLL at 0167:5f4040fd.

This sounds like the source of at least one of the types of reported intermittent failures. Inability to deal with long streams of repeated IR data.
