ID Numbers when burning a CD-R

I know this isn't a question about Slink-e & CDJ but everyone here seems more knowledgeable than other forums. I just bought an HP 8200i CD-Writer. I wanted to make copies for my own personal use of some of my favorite CDs. The idea is to keep the copies in my Sony 200 changer and have the originals available for the car/office etc.

I burned my first CD last night and although it sounds fine and seems to work in all the CD players I could try, the ID number was different. I do not have CDJ running at the moment to a recent stereo relocation, but noticed the ID difference using a program on my PC that can talk to the CDDB. I used the CD Copier software from Adaptec that ships with the drive. Does anyone know if the id number of a CD is explicitly assigned? Is it a type of checksum? Is it supposed to be a random number?

Long term, what I would love would be software that could let me burn a CD and add CD text information so I can get track info displayed on my Sony CDX-220.

Thanks in advance for any help. If this info is of any use to anyone feel free to post here or e-mail so I can keep you informed.
