IrDA possible?

Hi. I've recently acquired a Kodak DC-210+ Zoom digital camera. I can transfer between my camera and the PC with a serial cable. (@115kbps, I think.) The camera can also communicate via IrDA (v1.1, @ up to 115kbps, also I think), so my question is...

What would it take to get my Slink-e to talk to my camera? An act of god, possibly...? ;-) I'm not against doing some programming, if this is within reach.

Otherwise, can someone suggest a source of an IrDA receiver/transmitter for my PC? (I'm pretty sure I have the necessary connector on my BX motherboard.) Would this steal a serial port from me? ("COM3" or "COM4", hopefully.)
