Matt, after lots of tinkering and a lot of hours i fially got my systems to work useing dcom. What did i have to do? well the first thing you have to have is a system that Validates user domian logins such as windows NT Zeke said he used windows 98 and windows 98 se. The Windowns 98se version my do this, i do not know because i do not have it! I set one of my computers up in the net work with Windows NT Server and use this one as the server and to Validate the user logins. The other 2 computer in the network are a windows 95 system and a windows 98 system. First,Windows 95 WILL NOT WORK so for get even trying to use it. Dcom for windows 95 can not use the Impersonate Feature. I found this out on the Microsoft web site. Windows 98 will work fine. You have to have this kind of setup before you can even attempt do use dcom. Once i got to this point the directions that colby has in the help files for the dcom setup work perfect. Note: I found that CDJ preforms a lot better on WINDOWS NT, all the little problems that i was haveing went away with windows NT system. (same PC)

Once you get it running there are still a lot of issues to look at. 1. This dcom setup Only controls the active x SLINK SERV it does not control CDJ on the server itself. This causes a lot of problems if you have more than one CDJ up and running most of the time SLINK SERV will stop responding to any system ending up with no control anywhere. so if you use it i would Recommend only running CDJ at a time. 2. MP3 files Will not play if you are using the Client. (the one that the Slink box is not on) This is for obviouse reason, The MP3 Player would be on the client and slink server is not running there.

Using this setup (DCOM) does work with the right setup. Personaly i think this way sucks! I hope colby is reading this and will look at other ideas. What we need is a NETWORK Version of CDJ not Slik Serv (although im sure there is alot of other things people use Dcom/Slink serv for I.E. IR stuff!) In a network version of CDJ you would have one Copy of CDJ AS the Server version. then you could have Client version. The way it would work would be that all the clients would update the server version, so if i added a track on one of the clients it would update the server version and the server would update all the clients, that way your playlist would be the same no mater what system you were on and only the server version would have control of SLINK SERV. This would solve a lot of problems. Like the MP3s would work since the server would be the one playing them. There would be no fights over the SLINK serv. and best of all NO DCOM. The clients would not have to comport interaction. I wish i could program i would do it!

IF you still need help send me an email and well talk TIM@playful.com

Thanks Tim
