True. Yet another option would be a PCI card that provides serial ports (or a combination of serial and parallel). All PCI cards are self-configuring and they share system resources with everything else on the PCI bus, so you just pop it in, load the drivers and it works. I hesitated to mention these options because they entail more $. But they are certainly easier.
