IR emitters

Is there any way to use the type of IR emitters that attach to the IR inputs of individual components with the slink-e? My room set up does not allow for use of the blast type IR emitter included with the slink-e. Could you use one of the slink outputs? Most of the IR emitters have a 3.5mm phone plug on the other end, which would fit into the slink jacks on the slink-e. Thoughts?
