Your message is very confusing. I will try to help but it may be better if we take this offline (email).

You can connect the Slink-e to any RS232 device and issue low level commands to it, and get messages from it. You have to understand the pinouts (standard PC), be able to drive the slinke or listen to it from some program (VB, C++)or a terminal emulator. The terminal emulator will only do for learning what things look like and experimanting. You will have to learn all of the low level RS232 sequences that are used by the slinke. I believe it is all documented on this WEB site in the help section. It is non trivial and unless you are a fairly competent programmer it is not advised.

I am not that familiar with the home vision device, but what you want to do is probably doable with a PC as the control entity. I control my home and HT and music from a Touch screen remote (Philips Pronto) using a PC as the control system (the Home vision functionality) and the slinke as the IR interface out to the IR components. The components I drive with IR are run open loop, they return no responses. I use a very small cheap device ($40) to read IR from the pronto remote rather than through the slinke, it was just easier for me, although you could do the same thing through the slinke in theory.

I am not sure what you intend to use as the touch screen, with home vision, nor do I understand how you intend to get status feedback from and A/V device that doesn't report it unless you ware using additional external hardware for sensing the A/V status.

Feel free to send me email or post to this thread any other questins or clarification. I travel a lot during the week, so I get to this BBS and email at least every weekend.
