what I'd like to see is an expansion of the current Slinkserv to support generic serial port device "messages" - in the same way it supports the CM11A on a serial port now. The developer would create a device specifying commands and responses for a serial device and slinkserv would act as the device driver for the port. This way I could create device files for thermostats, security systems, etc - and for the modem.

Anyone aware of existing OCX type serial port drivers that already do that?
