[slinkelist] Random play in newest version

Colby et al,

Isn't it a function of the total running time of the discs in the jukebox
(which can be calculated from the database)?

I have 3 jukeboxes and about 700 cds in them, I find that the same tracks
come up again and again and again. that should not be the case, ... which is
why I suggest a property sheet on random play choices. In my case I'd like
to hear all tracks eventually, i.e. keep a play count against each track and
randomly play the least played (subject to DON'T PLAY THIS TRACK), .. I'm
sure we could quickly come up with some more options as well.

I think that it is clear that one size doesn't fit all here, ... so let the
user choose what they prefer.

Cheers
paul

I've thought about all of these things before. The problem comes in
defining
WHEN random play starts and stops. For example, you run random play for
a
while and then stop it. Then you start random play again. Is it allowed
to
replay tracks? How long after something has been played must you wait
before
playing it again? Your choice might be different if you had a long set
of
search results or a short one... Once you start putting too many
restrictions on what can be played, things start looking very
non-random,
particularly if you don't have a large number of results to start with.
I
could add something which refreshed the search every time a new random
item
was added to the playlist so that recently played items would be removed
from the search...
