Les - it's Slink-e (not Slick-e).

Anyway... I bought mine in kit form and assembling it is pretty straight forward. But it does take a little ability with a soldering iron. It will take a few hours to put together, so, depending on what value you place on your time, it is probably worth buying it assembled. Besides, that way you know YOU haven't screwed up the assembly.

The software and documentation is still in the developement stages, but continues to improve - sometimes almost daily. Assuming Colby has a "real" job somewhere, I don't know where he gets the time to put in so much work on the slink-e. Where there are gaps in the documentation, I'm sure someone in this group can come up with the answer.

I am only running one Sony CDP-CX205 which I got for $280 at Costco (they don't have them now). I have been very happy with it, but I think it has been replaced with a newer model. If I were buying now, I would buy a model with Title display and with the audio output to chain to a second player. You may not plan to buy a second player, but things have a way of growing - I'm up to almost 600 CD's now and trying to figure out how to justify the purchase of a second player to my wife.

There is no need to be hooked to the net except when you are initially identifying the CD's in your "library". My guess is that a 486 will run the software fine, but someone who is actually using a 486 should field this question.

John
