In Response To: Re: HTML Help Files (Colby Boles)

Well, I installed IE 4.01 on my Mac 8500 _just_ so I could read the help
pages, went to the help section, and... nothing.

The window breaks into 2 panes and then just sits there, claiming:
"Contents loaded" or some such in the status bar. Nothing but empty
panes...

Downloading the three files and opening them locally with IE/4 was
no better (worse, in fact).

My brief trip to www.microsoft.com leads me to believe that HTML Help
is only available under Windows - it doesn't appear to be supported
on *ANY* other platform.

This new format is a *big* step backwards, in that it has moved the
documentation from a format which could be read on every modern computing
platform (HTML) to one that can only be read on Windows.

This cuts off the very people who need the documentation the most - those
on non-Windows platforms, without use of your class libraries and Active
X controls, who are trying to "roll their own" systems using the Slink-e.

People like me.

Had this been the state of affairs when I was buying my Slink-e, I
probably would *not* have bought it. The detailed _accessible_
documentation was a big factor in my decision to buy.

Please reconsider this new format, Colby. It doesn't work locally or
on the Web for me. I suspect it cuts off all non-MS folks from your fine
documentation entirely.
