No. The slaves output jacks (Left right analog audio, or digital audio, s-video or composite video connect to the corresponding input jacks on the master. The only drawback is that it will not pass component video from the slave to the master, there are no component video input jacks on the unit. The pioneer link is just a wired IR signal. If you have a Xantech network they make an adapter so that the wired IR signal does not need an emitter. There is a control output jack on the master that you would connect to the control input jack on the slave. In that way if you used real IR you only aim at the master. the slaves IR receiver is disabled when the control in jack isused. With two units you have a seamless 601 disk unit.
