The DXS would seem perfect for the situation you are describing. All of my changers, MD, DATs, soundcards feed into the DXS and then distribute to each room via cheap RG-6 coaxial cable. The receiver in each room has a digital input, but this is not expensive (I picked up a JVC with 5.1 and DTS for $179). Another digital out from the DXS goes to the digital in of my soundcard, which could be used for audio streaming.
