Programing 101 for Intelligent non programer

Gentlepeople,

I have My SlinkE connected via S-Link cable to two Sony CDP CX350 Jukeboxes. No problems operating the units, creating playlists, etc. I used EZ-Learn to teach SlinkE how to "read" the remote for my Rotel preamp. Now I'm stuck. I want CDJ to switch on the power to the preamp upon booting up, just as it does power for the jukeboxes. When closed, I want it to shut off power to the preamp. Simple enough, huh? Well, I'm not too proud to admit that I haven't a clue how to get from having created a device file for the Rotel preamp to integrating that information into the program so that it will do as I want.

No doubt others have "hit the wall" with this. The collective knowldege and experience here is humbling. Would one of you kind techno-lovers with a knack for dashing off code with the elan of a souffle please offer some advice. Is there a primer for how to do what I want? I've read the help sections carefully....but admit to rapidly reverting to a fetal position and wondering how eight years of college left me so inept. Trust me, synthetic organic chemistry and quantum mechanics are a snap relative to coaxing CDJ into issuing a few IR commands....or, God forbid, an X-10 command to initiate a macro.
