CD Text is a patented Sony technology, and has been slow to take off presumably because of that company's stupid licensing policies. However, Sony has loosened up in the last couple of years and now about 400 companies are licensed to use CD Text. An increasing number of new disks coming out have CD Text info. Virtually every Sony Music CD that comes out today has CD Text, though the fact is not aggressively advertised. Worth noting for those with, say, car CD changers is that you can burn your own copies of disks and add CD Text in the process, thus getting an artist/track display on your head unit.
