You can easily send IR codes over S-Link - we already have device files for that (cdca.cde). The problem with this method is that it isn't 100% reliable because the way the microcontroller code in the changers seems to be written there seems to be brief periods of time when the changer may not be responsive to IR-over-S-Link data (or probably IR for that matter). When you are trying to emulate IR kepresses for titling, you'll end up being a character off occasionally - or worse. If you were a human using a remote, this wouldn't be a problem because you would just hit the key again - but no such luck with computers... We had some success doing this for the CX270/90ES, but it was a nightmare. I think it's much more worthwhile to spend your time creating an interface for your TV, PDA, CE device, etc than to try to find ways to get text into the limited interface Sony provides...
