I had the same problem and solved it with your proposed solution but different hardware. I am now in the process of linking in the Slink. If you are familiar with the product known as the "Adcom Ball", what I have is fundamentally the same thing based upon an IBM PC. Using an RF mouse (trackball and keys) the remote signals the PC which shrinks the Home theatre video into a 1/3 size window and puts a remote control around it. You then press buttons on the remote (the one on the screen)using the RF mouse and the program issues all sorts of IR/X10 controls to your hearts content. A cofifuration file controls what gets sent under what conditions. When done, a single click blows the picture up back to full size and the remote disappears. I have been thinking of distributing (or selling) the software package. Any interest?
