You can detect the active inputs w/o actually examining the data stream. The Crystal SPDIF interface chips have status bits which can be polled to indicate if a stream is active. I was basically just going to use one of these parts on a seperate mux and have the on-board CPU scan the inputs looking for new streams. I can do this w/o using a DSP.

With regards to the peak levels thing, my current approach is to send a digital stream back to the PC and analyze the data there. Even if you had an analog-only system you could run the data back into your sound card. Then you cound just monitor levels using the standard windows sound api, and even display FFTs, etc in CDJ. I think this is a simpler solution for some people.

Assuming it was meant to be used with slink-e and CDJ, it wouldn't even necessarily have to

auto-sense active inputs (though that would be nice, of course).
