In Response To: Competition Question: Sony's CAV-1 pc visiontouch system (Scott S.)

I bought the CAV-1 about 6 months before buying a Slink-e. It was OK. Yes, it is a little more "polished" than the slink-e, in the sense that it has nice case, instruction manual, visually slick software, little mouse remote control, etc. But basically aside from that it was pretty limited, especially in terms of CD jukebox control. I don't remember all the issues, but I remember having to do something kludgy to get it to accept >100 discs (and forget about >200), it having no autorecognize feature (so you must actually enter all album titles and track names via keyboard), no way to download text info to the player, no import/export, limited shuffle capabilities ... and to top it all off, I could only get it to work about 25% of the time. Plus the software's UI, while visually slick, gets old and frustrating fast.

Bottom line: I stopped using it for CD control the day I got the slink-e, and don't miss it a bit. I actually still use it to control my receiver, where it seems to work pretty well, but my goal is to make a little VB app to replace this that talks to the slinke ... at which point I'll give you a really good deal on it if you want it. 8-).
