Trust me, they are in there. Either you don't have them on your custom toolbar, or they are off the edge of the screen somehow. Go to view->toolbar and sort it out.

On a side note, I noticed that the playlist columns won't sort and I didn't notice anyone else mentioning this.

I did this on purpose because nothing is more confusing than having a sorted playlist that doesn't play in that order.
