I believe the Control-A protocol is basically IR commands with a header attached. Take a look at the cdpcx200ca.cde file which is an example of this for the CD players. Basically you take the information from a decoded IR file, add the header, and you have a Control-A file. As you can see, the number of bits transmitted depends on the prefix and may not be a multiple of 8. This is why the wildcarding may not work. Of course you COULD make a command which had a the modulo 8 remainder of bits correct and have the rest a variable region you could iterate with CDJ... but as I mentioned before, these are just the IR codes, so you should be able to find them out directly from your remote.
