heres a registry fix solution.
1. boot to the DOS prompt.
2. type "cd:\windows\command"
3. type "scanreg /fix"
4. try rebooting the machine

if this didn't work
repeat step 1,2
type "scanreg /restore"

this will allow you to restore from an older working registry
repeat step 4.
