In Response To: Re: DXS and video? (Brooks Talley)

Video, video. Yeah, there are other solutions out there, but nothing in video compares to what I'm expecting in digital audio from DXS.

I own two of the better video solutions I've seen (Meridian 562v and JVC 7x4 switcher) but I'm not really satisfied with them. I want more S-video inputs than the Meridian provides and while the JVC has 4 outputs, it can really only provide 1 signal to 4 outputs. At least the Meridian can freely switch two independent signals across their three outputs. Now if the JVC could do that I'd be in love with it :-)

I've found an interesting 8x8 video switcher IC from Harris but it's a big step from their to a finished product. Especially if you don't have a lab or video circuitry experience.

Beyond an analog switcher I've even thought a digital switcher would be better. With switched 100Mbs Ethernet hubs getting relatively cheap nowdays, a little NTSC video to Ethernet box is an interesting idea. Run a length of Cat 5 (Ethernet cable) hook up a little NTSC->Ethernet box to one end and an Ethernet->NTSC to the other and viola, a digital switcher. OK, I'm dreaming a bit, but that's where ideas start ... of course, mine often end there, too.

Thanks for letting me vent my ideas ...

Scott
