In Response To: Controlling CDJ From a Remote - Help! (Dan Herrmann)

Dan:

I had the same problems a few weeks ago. I think the documentation on how to do this is terrible and for whatever reason Nirvis opts to not partake in the discusion.

From what I could figure out, with help from forum members is this:

1. Don't use EZ-LEARN. It is only for low level commands, not those that you will send thru CDJ.

2. You must have a skeleton cde file with minimal info for your device (or one that behaves like your device)

3. I'm not sure how many types of device files skeletons there are, apparantly at least 2 as I know Sony and Pioneer are different.

4. If the device isn't a Sony, I'd try to load a Pioneer cde file first. Once the file is loaded, turn on the slink-e log to file option. Point your remote and press the buttons you want to capture - writing down in what order you pressed the buttons. Exit CDJ and edit the log file. Each button push should be shown as a nomatch and then the binary of what the signal was. These binaries are the commands that end up in your device file- all with lower case commands.

5. I know this is rough, but I doing it from memory. If you still don't have a better explanation by tonight, I'll send you my notes from my home system.

Good Luck

Barry Dacks

Colby- If you happen to read this. I sent you 2 emails on this subject last week and never heard from you - possibly I had a bad return email address. In any case, how about write for dummies on how to do this.
