That's pretty risky though - you're relying on the shielding on the audio cables to ground out the PC. Seems like you're risking life and systems there.

I had the same problem and clipping off the ground pin did solve the interference problem like a charm. The DVD drive in the PC was fried in a lightning storm just afterwards though ... were the two connected? Hard to say.

I think there is probably a legal, code-approved solution to this (like connecting the metal chassis of your PC into the same grounding point as the receiver with a proper grounding wire.)

This problem is compounded if you have audio equipment that is generally 2 prong. In my particular case, all my audio gear was 2-prong, the PC was 3-prong. The problem was that my DSS receiver was grounded via an 8-foot long rod protecting against lightning strikes.

Does anyone know the _safe_ solution to this?
