One other possibility is the cable. At one time I bought a cable from
some
store, and it wreaked havoc with my s-link system. Upon further
investigation
it turned out to have a 10 ohm resistor (shunt) in one of the
connectors.
I don't what it was intended for, but I just threw it away....
