[slinkelist] IR on WinCE box

When I bought my TRG Pro, I dedicated my Palm 3 at home to Omni Remote. Agreed
that the built in IR on the Palm devices stinks, but Pacificneotek also sells
the Omniremote module which works great. The one thing I did not like about
that solution was holding the unit upside down and having to hold it fairly flat
to get it to work. My solution was to build the IR transmitter side of the
module into my extra hotsync cradle. I found a schematic on the net for the
transmitter side. I think it uses 6 parts including 2 IR LED's. Now I can see
the display to push buttons and hold it comfortably in my hand or use it without
picking it up from the table. I have the hotsync button configured to turn on
the Palm3 and launch Omniremote and using a hack (I think commander) it will
turn the backlight on between whatever hours I specify. I also have the up and
down buttons set for volume and you can configure them all if you want. I use
the built in timers to play music to go to sleep to and then put CDJ to sleep
and then it wakes me up with a playlist in the morning that it shuffles each day
so I wake up to something different each day. The combination between my P3,
Omniremote, and CDJ has been a wonderful thing for me. The only weak link is
that I am still using IR to turn the stereo on and off at specified times. I
would love to see the ability to set timers in CDJ to execute commands or
macros.

Just my $.02 worth.

I have both a Palm and a Pronto... don't use the Palm to control much. It
was a novelty but wore off quickly.

It is true that the IR on the PalmIII devices is too week to control much.
For some reason the upgrade to some of the older palms (which included an
new back with an IR port) have a much stronger IR signal.

I also agree with George's statement that the lack of capability to add
devices by merging in devices created by someone else is a major shortcoming
for OmniRemote. They have been promising this capability for over a year.

Does anyone know if it's possible to send remote control ir signals via the
ir port on a pocket pc running WinCE 3? (i.e. turn one of the new pocket
pc's into a color pronto) :)

Thanks,
Neil
