Just some thoughts:

1) Does the Amp have a setting for CONTROL A1 activity? On my DA80ES there is a setting, but I leave it on auto - I'm not even sure what it does.

2) Have you left the amp unplugged for a few hours to try to "reset" it? I'm not sure if there is a better way to get back to factory settings.

3) Add the lowlevel device to see if any activity is coming from the slink port with the amp attached - change inputs, etc. to see if any traffic is generated.

4) If you take the slink-e out of the equation and connect the amp & changer directly, does the amp switch to the cd input when you hit play on the changer?
